Nocera Umbra: A Journey through the Centuries

Founded by the Umbri around the 6th century B.C., Nocera Umbra was conquered by the Romans in 161 B.C., becoming an important municipium due to its location along the Via Flaminia.

Home to one of the richest and most extensive Lombard necropolises from the early invasion period, it was included in the Duchy of Spoleto during the Middle Ages and was definitively annexed to the Papal States in 1439.

During the Renaissance, it became renowned for the therapeutic virtues of its waters and soil, famous since ancient times. The use of Nocera’s land, dating back to the pre-Roman period, is also evidenced by the discovery of molds in Umbrian burials.
